What's Your Why?

Motivation is the driving force behind our actions and decisions, especially when it comes to pursuing our goals and aspirations. Whether you're striving to achieve fitness milestones, advance in your career, or pursue personal passions, tapping into your motivation is essential for success. However, finding and sustaining motivation can be challenging, especially when faced with obstacles and setbacks. In this blog, we'll explore practical strategies to help you uncover and harness your inner drive to empower you to overcome life’s challenges.

Understand Your Why:

One of the most powerful ways to find motivation is by understanding your "why" – the underlying reason behind your goals and aspirations. Take some time to reflect on what truly matters to you and why you want to achieve your objectives. Is it to improve your health and well-being? To provide for your family? To be healthy so that you can enjoy time with your family? This should be a deep underlying thought that keeps you moving forward. It’s the reason that you show up to the gym even when you're tired and just “don’t feel like it”. It’s the reason you keep trying even when self doubt creeps in, this is the voice you hear to propel you to keep going.

Setting your Goals:

Once you've identified your why, it's time to translate it into actionable goals. Your goals need to be SMART : Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Framed. Now, Break down your larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks, and create a plan of action to achieve them. As you make progress towards your goals, you'll experience a sense of accomplishment that fuels your motivation to keep going. For ex. “I want to be stronger” is a great thought but it needs to be specific. “I want to be able to do 1 pull up in 3 months.” This goal checks all the boxes for a SMART goal and you will still be “stronger” than you were initially.

Cultivate a Growth Mindset:

Embrace a growth mindset, which believes that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and effort. Instead of viewing setbacks and challenges as failures, see them as opportunities for growth and learning. Adopting a positive attitude towards obstacles empowers you to overcome them with resilience and determination. Put in other words: We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again and again : You’re going to have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Embrace the journey. Embrace your journey on finding a “better you”.

Celebrate Progress:

Take time to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognizing your progress boosts your confidence and reinforces your motivation to continue working towards your goals. Keep a journal or use a progress tracking tool (like our CFT app)  to record your accomplishments and reflect on how far you've come. By celebrating your wins along the way, you'll stay motivated and inspired to keep pushing forward.

Conclusion:

Finding your motivation is a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. By understanding your why, setting meaningful goals, cultivating a growth mindset and celebrating your progress, you can unlock your inner drive and achieve success in many areas of your life. Remember that motivation may ebb and flow, but the grit behind your “why” will stick with you even on your toughest days.
